Evaluation-
To be honest, this has been
the most stressful few weeks ever. With two deadlines being in on the same day,
and having a lot of work/shoots outside university, I have been trying my
hardest to organise myself and plan everything well so it all runs smoothly.
Also, being how I am, I do
not make it easy for myself, but I like taking risks and pushing myself to the
extreme. When given the assignment I was so excited as it gave me the chance to
experiment, explore things that aren’t heard of in the beauty industry.
I decided to do 3 completely
different looks, all involving people covering up their identity. I am very
happy with how this project developed, and I feel I have exceeded my expectations,
and my shoots have come out better than thought.
My blog shows my development
and how my looks are more based around diversity than the 1920’s Weimar Berlin.
I chose this because I thought there is much more to explore and I could put
both my practical and technical skills into use and experiment. I wanted to
show that not everything is as it seems, and many people try to cover up
something, pretend to be someone or something that they aren’t. As I have grown
up I have learnt a lot about this, and its something that is occurring in our
everyday lives, but no one sees it; this is why I have tried to show this as
much as I can in my images.
The choice of models is key
for this unit, and I am really pleased with how they all worked with me, and
how the images turned out. I really enjoyed working with Kieran, and it was a
change for me working on an older mans skin that I am not used to. Also
applying the foundation over the stubble was strange, however I am extremely
proud of this image, and is most probably my favorite from this unit.
Emily’ s look was very
challenging, as it’s such a deep subject to touch on. I know of someone who is
familiar with this awful and shameful experience, and previous posts explores this
further. Whilst applying the bruises it touched both Emily and myself inside,
and it was quite sickening to look at. Emily again was an amazing model, as she
portrays many women of todays society; getting dressed up, looking beautiful,
cheerful, but behind the cover is something you would never expect, something
so vivid, yet its reality.
Zaina as mentioned on my blog before, suffers from Vitiligo, and she feels the need that she has to cover up, a
thing that I totally disagree on. In the world we live in today, everyone is so
judgmental; no one can do or say anything without someone commenting. People
are made to feel insecure, are made to change their natural selves, I want to
make clear with my final images is that you cant judge a book by its cover, no
one has the right to judge when they don’t know what’s going on deep down.
I am very proud of myself
this term, and feel that I have spoke and portrayed personality and feelings
both on my blog and in my images. I also feel that my photography and technical
skills have improved as time goes on. I myself am shocked about how far my time
management and development skills have come along, and I hope that this is
shown on my blog.
Fishtail - zaina Hair
I am deciding to give Zaina a simple hairstyle, so the main concentration is on the face. In our studio lessons, we have been learning about plats, and i have found fishtail quite challenging. I decided to take a risk and give Zaina a fishtail plat for the final image.
Below are some images when i have practiced.
